History:
Ridgefield is an affluent Connecticut town located approximately eight miles southwest of Danbury and noted for its colonial heritage and "New England" small-town character.  Also the site of the Revolutionary War's "Battle of Ridgefield" in 1777, the town's historically siginificant architecture has always been well preserved and/or restored.

Recognizing a need for affordable and safe housing for senior citizens, the Town created the Ridgefield Housing Authority in 1974, with the mission of developing and managing public housing facilities for seniors in Ridgefield.  See Locations...

In 1999, the town's Affordable Housing Committee determined the following based on a study to determine the community's needs.
  • Many lifelong residents of the area could not find suitable housing
  • Many mature adults were living with their parents
  • Many elderly people were forced to move outside the area
  • Local businesses found it difficult to hire from within the area because residents could not afford local rents

In 2009, the Ridgefield Housing Authority Limited Partnership successfully completed a full rehabilitation of 120 units and added 12 new one-bedroom handicapped accessible units.  See RHA Modernization.

Currently, all Ridgefield Housing Authority's existing 152 affordable rental units are fully occupied.  There is a waiting list for both the affordable family units and the affordable elderly units.  See Applications....
